U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton: Justice Served Or Overzealous Prosecutor of Border Agents?

Thursday, June 21, 2007

WASHINGTON — Johnny Sutton isn’t everyone’s favorite federal prosecutor.

President Bush’s pick for U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Texas, confirmed by the U.S. Senate on Nov. 30, 2001, has been vilified in the media and by Border Patrol groups, a few lawmakers and others for his prosecution of several U.S. Border Patrol agents.

Lawmakers Probe Prosecution of Border Agents Who Shot Mexican Drug Runner

WASHINGTON — Pressure is growing on Capitol Hill to investigate the prosecution of two former Border Patrol agents doing prison time for their on-duty shooting of a Mexican man who was transporting drugs into the United States.

Jose Compean and Ignacio Ramos are serving 12 and 11 years, respectively, for the non-fatal shooting in 2005 of Osvaldo Aldrete Davila. The agents shot Davila in the buttocks as he was transporting more than 700 pounds of marijuana into the United States through Fabens, Texas.

Davila was given immunity in exchange for his testimony against the agents.

Now the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on International Organizations, Human Rights and Oversight is organizing a hearing on any influence the Mexican government may have had on prosecuting Compean and Ramos. Read more...

News Flash: You Tube has suppressed all my efforts to upload Tom Tancredo's Presidential stump speech.

I've tried over a half a dozen times to upload it and it never appears after saying "successful upload". I see banner ads for all democratic candidates. The people who scream the loudest about censorship are the ones censoring information.

How do Border Patrol agents feel about this latest bill?

Local 2544 calls it what it is...
a "Senate Sellout"

"...We expected this type of sell-out from Senator McCain, and even from Border Patrol Chief David Aguilar, but we didn't expect it from Senator Kyl. We believed him to be a man of his word, in a political atmosphere where ones word doesn't mean much anymore.

Is it any wonder that morale in the BP continuously erodes to levels never thought possible? Can you imagine telling Highway Patrolmen that drag racers and drunk drivers should be released without penalty and rewarded with continued driving privileges for breaking the law?..."

WND Commentary
Ramos was nominated for Border Patrol Agent of the Year in 2005. His nomination received a major setback when the Bush administration decided to put him in prison instead.
